Family Discussion Questions:

  1. What silly and embarrassing things did God’s people do when they disobeyed him?
  2. What terrible things did God’s people do when they disobeyed him?
  3. Did God’s people stay thankful to God for rescuing them from Egypt?
  4. Could any of Israel’s kings rescue them from sin and hell?
  5. God is compared to a lion. Would you rather have a lion as your helper or enemy?
  6. How did Jesus defeat death?
  7. When will death be finally gone?
  8. What will happen to people if they do not trust in Jesus?
  9. We believe that God’s decree includes all things that will come to pass, and yet that he is not the author of sin. How does that help us to comprehend verses 15-16? Why is that a terrible and fitting result of Israel continually choosing Assyria instead of the Lord?
  10. How have you seen the truths of verses 1-2 in the world around you? How about in your own life/heart?
  11. Israel’s history (Old Testament) is summed up in verse 13; they could not produce their own saviour. How does this set up wonderfully the book of John?
  12. Verse 14 is one which we too often forget. How does this correct our false understanding that the only comfort at a Christian funeral is that their soul is in heaven?
