Galatians 5:13-18

 Sermon Outline:

1.    Freedom of Christ is not an opportunity for slavery to the flesh

2.    Christian freedom is the freedom to love and serve rather than compete with and use one another

3.    Christ gives the Holy Spirit who provides the freedom of godly desires

4.    If you are led and walk by the Spirit you are not under the law  

Family Discussion Questions:

1.    What does it mean to say that Christ died to give us freedom from sin?

2.    What does it mean to say that Christ died to give us freedom from the law?

3.    Does freedom from the law now mean that we get to live unholy lives?

4.    How is adding more rules just an opportunity to live for the flesh?

5.    How is taking away rules also an opportunity to live for the flesh?

6.    How does doing either of those things (adding or taking away rules) add to conflict and division and hatred within a church?

7.    How are the rules of a game and the goal of a game similar yet different? How is that a helpful analogy to living as forgiven children of God?

8.    Does the Law of God prevent us from loving other people? Does it limit our enjoyment of God?

9.    Why is it that a church which has little appreciation for the real work of the Spirit of God will run to either legalism or lawlessness?
