Family Discussion Questions:

1. What imperatives does Isaiah give us in this passage? Contrast what his readers are called to do with what they are told has been done for them. How does that help us understand salvation?

2. What is the benefit of the metaphor of the cup of God’s wrath? Where else do we see it in Scripture and how does that help us understand God’s justice and how He satisfies it so that He can justify His people?

3.What does it mean that God’s people were redeemed without money?

4. What is the benefit of the metaphor of the runner and the watchmen? What gospel truths does this image convey?

5. Isaiah says that the “uncircumcised” and “unclean” will not be able to enter Zion at all. This phrase commonly refers to Gentiles. How could it be true that we, then, are told that we will separate ourselves from what is unclean and dwell in Zion no matter where we are born?

6. Are there any lies that you have entertained to convince you that God’s salvation is not so entirely accomplished as He says it is? Do you doubt whether all of Christ’s accomplishments are true for you?

7. Are there any ways in which you are acting as though holiness is not really possible for you? Are there any ways that you need to “depart” from what is unclean?
