Hebrews 11:1-4

Sermon Outline:

  1. By faith, we hold on to promises we have not yet received.

  2. Faith believes that what we cannot see is greater than what we can see.

  3. By faith, we can exchange our lives and all this world for the sake of that future hope.

Family Discussion Questions:

Younger and Older:

  • Does having faith in something mean we have no reason to believe it?
  • Is Chrisitan faith just in the things that have already happened, like Jesus' death and resurrection?
  • What was the difference between Abel's sacrifice and Cain's?
  • What reward did Abel receive for having faith?

Deeper Discussion:

  • How do the exhortations in 10:19-36 help us better understand what we are meant to take away from what chapter 11 teaches us about faith?
  • In what way do the words for "conviction" and "assurance" also meaning substance, proof, or reality, strengthen the description of faith we have in this verse?
  • What does our faith in the "visible" coming from the "invisible" tell us about what we should expect in the future?
  • What does someone's acceptance of a health and wealth or socially acceptable gospel distortion say about their faith?
