Family Discussion Questions

Younger and Older:

  • Who was Melchizedek?  Which of God's people did he meet long ago?
  • Jesus was from the wrong Israelite tribe to be one of their regular priests.  Why was it better that He was a Melchizedek priest instead?
  • How did Jesus give us righteousness and peace?
  • What happened after Jesus' death that gives us righteousness and peace that lasts forever?

Deeper Discussion:

  • How would people who preferred the Levitical priesthood over the Melchizedek one be revealing a lack of even a basic understanding about who God is and who we are?
  • How might a lazy attitude to certain portions of Scripture lead us unintentionally to get even basic parts of the Gospel tragically wrong?
  • Why might the Hebrew believers have wanted to leave behind their allegiance to Christ?  How about you?
  • God was forbidding His people to go back to the old system which pointed to Christ even though He had once graciously provided it for them.  Why is it even more foolish for us to turn to man-made systems to have peace with God?
  • What difference does it make now and eternally to have Christ as King of Righteousness and Peace?
