Family Discussion Questions:

Younger and Older:

  • How does God show us the sin in our hearts?
  • Will we always know it when we are sinning?
  • How does the Bible's work to show you your sin help you to not let go of trusting in Jesus to save you?
  • What are some ways that you can make sure that the Bible is doing this work to your heart?

Deeper Discussion

  • How does the description of the Word of God here show that it is foolish to base your justification on any other righteousness than Christ's alone?
  • Sin was earlier in Hebrews described as deceitful and something which hardens our hearts.  How does the description of God's Word as being "living and active" in this passage encourage those who are worried about that happening to them?
  • There is a modern trend in Christianity to flock toward a church which will remove the responsibility of a disciple's diligent attention by entertaining people or only teaching shallow truths.  How does this passage show that this works against true discipleship?
