John 12:19-26

After a crowd of tens of thousands of His own people announce that He is their long-awaited Rescue King (Messiah) a group of Gentiles comes forward to embrace Jesus.  Jesus knew that this was fulfilling God's plan - to not only save the Jewish people but people from all nations.  In order to bring many to glory, Jesus would first have to die in their place.

He then tells his disciples that they would need to treasure Him more than their very lives and that it would be worth it because if they do they will live forever with Him receiving honour from God that only He deserves.

Jesus would have to forfeit His own life in order to save the lives of many others who would be called to forfeit their own lives in exchange for what Jesus purchased with His.
