Romans 12:9-21; Hebrews 12:1-2

It seems like we're either being told to ignore and suppress our emotions or just be helplessly controlled by them.  But Christ's death on the cross on our behalf doesn't cancel our emotions, but redeems our emotions.  We no longer have to be enslaved by our emotions, but are freed and transformed to use our redeemed emotions to enjoy, long for, and pursue goodness.

This stems from the Gospel itself, in which God was rich in mercy toward us who deserve His wrath because of our sin.  Because of His great love for us, Christ bore in Himself our sin and God's wrath which we deserved so that we could share in the joy that He deserves.

As we look in the book of Proverbs, we'll consider how Christ transforms us to deal with our own anger and joy, as well as the anger and joy of others.
