Family Discussion Questions:

Younger and Older:

  • Who wrote this letter, and where was he writing from?
  • Why can we trust the words in this letter?
  • How does a person get to be "in Christ?"
  • What does getting grace from God mean?
  • How does being part of a church family help you to hold on to and enjoy the Gospel?

Deeper Discussion:

  • The phrase "in Christ" draws our attention to one of the most delightful doctrines, the doctrine of union with Christ, which is the gift possessed by every Christian.  How does this doctrine help us to better see that the joy of the Gospel is unbreakable?
  • What was the unique office (position) that Paul held that gave him the ability to speak on behalf of Jesus?  How is this different than church leaders today?
  • What is the difference between a church and a group of believers who encourage one another in the Lord?  While both are great, why might a 'church' be indispensable for you to hold onto and enjoy the Gospel?
  • "Saint" means "holy ones," and this is who the letter is addressed to.  How is the work of God to make His people holy both finished and unfinished?
  • What impact would meditating on the truth that in Christ God has declared you "holy" have on your life?
